Hello, friends!
Amie: It’s been a minute since we wrote to you — but we have plenty to share, so let’s get to it!
Meg: Our next book together (which, yes, is under contract and currently being drafted!) is coming to you in 2024, so these newsletters will be slower until then, but we both thought it was past time for us to drop into your inboxes with an update.
Amie: My big piece of news is that I’m going to be starting a new mailing list, in which I’ll be writing a letter to readers each month about my experiences navigating both life and publishing, and talking more about my May 2023 release, The Isles of the Gods. You won’t automatically be transferred across, but I’d love if it you’d click through and subscribe. My first edition will go out on September 1st, and you can subscribe here to make sure you don’t miss it.
Meg: We’ll still be emailing you from this list every 3 - 6 months until 2024, just so you don’t forget about us, and we’ll let you know if we have any big announcements, but for those of you following along with Amie’s solo book journey, her newsletter is the place to be.
Amie: We’ll definitely be here. And together! Forever! We truly cannot wait to tell you more about our next book. It’s definitely the funniest thing we’ve ever written, and… actually, let’s just show you what our editor said when she saw the pitch:
Meg: And then she emailed again…
Amie: Have we been sufficiently mean mysterious yet?
Meg: We’ll share more next year.
Amie: For now, let’s share our life news. Because yours includes a new kitten!
Meg: It sure does. Earlier this year, I was heartbroken to lose one of my two cats, Sebastian. He was such a special boy, and his sister Viola and I were bereft after he was gone. It took some time to be ready, but I knew Viola would be happier with a companion, and recently our new kitten, Lavender, joined the household.
Amie: Here she is being totally dignified.
Meg: And here she is being the most cunning cat who was ever cunning, demonstrating her hunting prowess.
Amie: That camouflage. Who could detect her? I certainly don’t have anything as perfect as Lavender to share — though who could? It’s winter here in Melbourne, and it’s a pretty miserable one, so we’ve had the fire roaring in the fireplace most night, and we’ve been teaching the kid to roast marshmallows, with limited success but hilarious results.
Meg: That makes me want to get straight back on a plane — I’ll swap your winter for my summer! I’m so glad it’s heading into fall over here. As a pale-skinned redhead, I am just not a summer girl.
Amie: Having Meg out here earlier this year was definitely a highlight — we would have kept her forever, if we could have managed it. The two of us will be spending some time in New York together later in the year — we like to be in the same place while we draft, when we can — and I’m already counting down.
Meg: We’re going to visit all our old haunts, and catch up with our editor too!
Amie: Otherwise, my time is taken up with a long, long recovery from Covid — my husband and I have booked slots on a limited-entry hike next March, and I’m going to need to be really fit by then, so I’ve been slowly increasing my step count once again, and gazing lovingly at pictures of hiking trails.
Meg: I want you to send me alllll the pictures when you’re there! But I think that’s about it, for now — we’ll be back before Christmas to update you on all our news.
Amie: In the meantime, here’s one more reminder that you can catch me over at Amie Kaufman: Finding North for monthly letters about life, publishing, and The Isles of the Gods. I’d love to see you there!
